KFD’s Fire Chief Soveran Gives Speech at Annual Ball
During the Fireman’s Ball, Fire Chief Jeff Soveran gave a speech:
Thank you all for coming tonight. First off, our Department has some upcoming events that are note worthy that I would like to share with you.
The Kindersley Fire has participated in the PARTY Program for as long as I can remember. It’s a different kind of party, not anything like tonight’s annual ball. Instead, the PARTY program stands for: Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth.
The Program is a one-day injury awareness and prevention program for youth aged 15 and older. It takes the kids through all the levels of an incident, a simulated car accident with injuries and fatalities, which directly involve Kindersley Fire doing extrication, EMS caring for the injured, RCMP investigating and arresting a DUI driver. And of course, the last thing we dont want to see, is the funeral home arriving on scene.
The students continue the day listening to speakers and visiting the facilities and staff that spring into action after an incident. This would include the hospital where the injured are transported to, which would include doctors and nurses attending to them. A tour of the funeral home is also on the agenda.
This program is very important as it gives the students a peek into what really happens at an incident,
Another event coming up and one that the Kindersley Fire Department will be hosting is the 2024 SVFFA Fall Fire School in Kindersley. This will run from Friday, Sep 27 to Sunday, Sep 29, 2024. We’ll see over 300 firefighters and up to 40 Fire Instructors take over KCS High School, for a long list of training events, along with the classroom training, there will multiple areas in Kindersley, setup for practical training events.
Which to a name a few are:
-Pump operations
-Vehicle fire fighting
-Vehicle extrication
-Wildland fire fighting
-Heavy rescue
-Structural search & rescue
-Live fire
Another hosting event Kindersley Fire Department will hosting in June of 2025 is the Saskatchewan association of Fire Chiefs annual Conference & Trade Show. This 3-day event brings over 300 Fire Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs, and fire fighter officers together to learn and discuss all things Fire and Rescue.
There will be speakers from across north America for multiple sessions which help us be better leaders in our industry. There will also be a trade show, where companies specializing in Fire and Rescue equipment, will be showing us their latest equipment, from fire trucks to rescue tools, and other safety equipment. And of course, social events every evening including meals together.
One last thing I’d like to mention is the crew of firefighters that are at your table, or across from you, are seriously dedicated in what they do. This is not an easy job, it’s a necessary job, and it can be a rewarding job.
They wouldn’t be as dedicated as they are without the support of their immediate families. This job interrupts the entire family continuously. So why do they do it? I personally do it to help someone in need, who had to turn to us for help.
If you ask them at your table right now, you’ll find a variety of answers, but in the end, it’s to help someone in need. So please take the time to ask them tonight.
I’d like to also thank the Town of Kindersley and the RM290 for supplying all the tools we need to get the job done. They are also a part of dedicated crew, that want to help someone in need.
Thank you again for coming and your support. Enjoy your evening.
