Upcoming Livestock and Forage-related Events

By Dwayne Summach, PAg, Livestock and Feed Extension Specialist, Outlook

Livestock and forage production-related learning opportunities are plentiful in Saskatchewan. Finding out information about when, where and what’s happening is helpful for scheduling field days into your calendar.

The Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence will be hosting a field day on June 18, with tours of the pens, plots and paddocks in the morning followed by lunch and presentations in the afternoon. Registration is required and can be accessed through Eventbrite.

The livestock speaker series will be one of many attractions at Ag in Motion taking place July 16-18 near Langham. Presentations will highlight technological advancements in water and feed management, new technologies being applied in pasture and forage management such as virtual fencing and using technology for managing herd-related data.

The Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association (SSCA) will also be present at Ag in Motion with cover crop demonstration plots. SSCA will be hosting field tours on July 23 in the Langham/Borden area, July 25 in the Birch Hills/Melfort region and August 9 near Gull Lake.

The 2024 Grasslands Sheep Exhibition will be hosted by the Saskatchewan Sheep Breeders’ Association and the Saskatchewan Sheep Development Board in Humboldt from July 19-21.

The Saskatchewan pasture tour is being hosted by the Saskatchewan Forage Council following the August long weekend in the Estevan area. Details and registration information will be posted on the Saskatchewan Forage Council’s website.

Rancher’s University is an event filled with technical presentations and hands on practical applications and will take place on December 6 and 7 in Saskatoon and Clavet.

Many other extension events take place throughout the year. For more information, check out the Agriculture Event Calendar, contact your local livestock and feed extension specialist or call the Agriculture Knowledge Centre at 1-866-457-2377 for additional information.
